Jenny Smith Plush Artist

Hi my name is Jenny and I am a Plush Artist.   I am Canadian, but now living in Los Angeles.
When I was a girl, my Father used to take me to a teddy bear shop in downtown Toronto that specialized in handmade bears! I used to love going there and it was there that I purchased a teddy bear kit. From there I was hooked and now design my own bears. I have been making bears for many years and I love it!
Teddy Bear Artistry is a bit of a dying art form. The traditional bears are fully jointed which means that their head and appendages rotate. The time that goes into making bears is true dedication to the art form. You must be very patient and creative. The best thing about Teddy Bear Artists is that the designs are very unique to each artist.

Now, I have gotten into designing  plush as well.  It’s just kind of the evolution of stuffed animals.  What’s really awesome is that now I am becoming part of a sub-culture of Plush Artists and it’s popularity as an art form is growing.   Being published in Stuffed Magazine 2012 and participating in Plush gallery shows is an honor.  Tweak 99 on Beverly in West Hollywood and at Crompton Collective in Worcester, Massachusetts.  I have some softies in a prop house here in Hollywood and so you will be sure to see these critters in various movies and t.v. shows.  NBC has one of my giant lions. I have had my art included in a Nerdist Art Show and will be making some pieces for the upcoming Plush You 2013 in Seattle this fall.

  1. Hi,
Congratulations on your engagement! I’m so happy for you, Jenny.
I can’t believe your in Los Angeles. I recognized your writing on the envelope immediately, then registered the address. When did you move?
Your stuffies are adorable. I’m glad you’re doing something that brings you so much joy and fulfillment.
And Carrie has two children now. Wow. I’m sure you’re the most amazing auntie in the world.
We’re the proud parents of two teenagers now – can you believe it! It seems like just yesterday they were my little baby’s. Now Owen is a handsome, 6’3″ 15 year old and Ryan is a beautiful 13 year old. I’m soon to be outgrown by both of them.
My parents send their love and congratulations on your engagement as well.
I look forward to seeing you this summer.
    Lots of love,

  2. I just wanted to let you know that I referenced you in my blog today and used pictures of your products. I hate the idea of referencing peoples work without their permission so please check it out http://crapatcrafts.com/?p=1178 and let me know if you have a problem with it.

    • Thanks Emily! I really appreciate it and I will share your blog and hopefully it will get more reads. Craftily yours, Jenny Smith and p.s. I will be at Renegade LA at the end of July and hope to see you there! 🙂
