Sunny October Days

As the end of October looms, I don’t have the usual gloomy feeling that I normally have.  This is because this is my first fall in Sunny California.  Usually, at this time of year, I am bunded up in pants and a shirt and a sweater and almost always a toque.  What is a toque you ask?  A toque is Canadian(french) for knitted hat or cap or beanie.  Although toque may not be the most refined word, I embrace it’s uniqueness, especially here in the States.

As for what I have been up to. I have a few new bears that I quite like!  The first one is Wheldon.  He is an adorable german mohair of the most beautiful golden brown.  He is a bit bigger than my usual 7 inch bear and stands at 10.5 inches.

Another new treasure is Al.  Al is my first alpaca bear and he is so incredibly soft, it’s almost un”bear”able.  He is 7.5 inches and cute as anything.  He is named for his fur, “Al”paca.

Cassius is another special bear, a softie.  He is the first softie that I have made that is not exactly smiling and it suits him.

I have a friend staying with me this week from Squamish, British Columbia.  She is an longtime, dear friend that I met in my skateboarding days, and we taught snowboarding together for a long while in Whistler.  She is on her way to Mexico to join a sailing crew and have a work/vacation for awhile.  Sadly, a few days after she left her boyfriend, his cat was run over.  So, in tribute to the awesomeness that was Burt Reynolds the cat, we designed our own Burt Reynolds and he turned out to be quite special and handsome.  We are off to mail him to Canada now!

What do you think?  We think Burt is adorable and he has inspired me to make more animals besides bears.  I’m thinking bunnies, and cats and foxes perhaps?

Burt again!

Okay, well my friend is still here, so after the post office we are heading to the beach.  Probably Santa Monica, maybe a little bit of Venice also, then off to the Westwood Farmer’s market!  Bon Voyage Burt!
